After a summer break, our monthly gathering called Lunchkins is back. We had a very sparse crowd last month. If you are new to the parish or if you have never taken the opportunity to experience Lunchkins, this is what it is all about.
Lunchkins was the brainchild of Lucy Dessomes, now deceased. The name was suggested by Jim Hoselle. The purpose was to give adults a venue to share food and fellowship. There is no agenda, no sales pitches, no business discussed as a group. Each person brings a dish to share or, should you decide to come at the last minute, you may contribute a cash donation toward the paper products (there is usually a basket or bowl at the start of the buffet line).
Lunchkins usually meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 11:30am in the Community Center. After an opening prayer, people serve their plates from the delicious offerings and find a place to sit where they can visit with others. Sometimes during Advent or Lent, the date is changed to coincide with the Anointing of the Sick Mass. Check the bulletin or parish calendar on the church website.
It is not just for Catholics, so if you have neighbors, relatives or friends of a different religious affiliation, please feel free to invite them.
Stella Wolf is the coordinator. If you have questions or comments, she can be reached at 228-760-0591 or email:[email protected] . Stella can always use a few hands to help set up the tables before the luncheon and help clean up after. If you are able to help, let her know.
The next date for Lunchkins is Sept 12 at11:30am. Hope to see you there and bring a friend.
