In the Catholic Church, the Sabbath begins with the celebration of the Vigil Mass on Saturday (for us it is at 5:00 p.m.) and ends at the end of Sunday. Liturgically, weddings are not permitted to be scheduled during the Sabbath. For this reason, St. Thomas Parish will no longer offer the option of scheduling a wedding on Saturday evening in our church. (As of January 1, 2016; only pre-existing 7pms will be honored). Wedding times on Saturdays are 11:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m.
If a couple wishes to celebrate an evening wedding they may do so only on Fridays (no weddings on Fridays during Lent). Please discuss the date and time of your wedding during your first contact with the priest or deacon. Marriage is a very important sacrament in the Catholic faith. We encourage couples to make proper preparations for the celebration of the wedding and for the marriage.
Guidelines for weddings may be found on the website or you may obtain a copy from the parish office.
