Some of the best known Old Testament images come from the Book of Daniel, stories like the Lion’s Den, the Writing on the Wall, and the Fiery Furnace. Yet its prophetic visions can be challenging to read and understand. Images like the array of strange creatures, the statue made from different materials, the Seventy weeks, and the Son of Man ascending to the Ancient of Days challenge us. At its heart, the Book of Daniel is about heroism and history. Daniel proclaims that God is in control. Whether in challenges to our individual Faith, or in the grand sweep of history, God is in control.
