This week, you will find in your offering packet a special envelope for Extension Society. After Hurricane Katrina, we received word that Catholic Extension Society would partner us with other churches throughout the nation. Little did we know what this would mean to us. Those churches provided support to help us in our recovery and rebuilding. Some of the smaller churches sent monthly contributions from their offering plate, some tithed part of their collections to help us, and some more affluent parishes sent larger checks. One donation that came to us through the Extension Society was in the amount of $250,000. For each contribution that came to us through Extension Society, we were extremely grateful. Extension Society helps parishes in times of disaster and also helps smaller mission parishes where the collections are not adequate to fund a Catholic church. Please remember how generous the Catholic Extension Society has been to our parish as you prayerfully consider what you will give to help them continue their work. If you have misplaced your envelope, just use a plain envelope and mark it “Pay it Forward to the Catholic Extension Society.
