Friends, I hope you enjoy wrapping up the Mardi Gras holidays. This coming Wednesday we will begin the lenten season. As you know Mardi Gras was created by the Catholic church to help us prepare for lent, thus the name"Fat Tuesday". Lent is a time in our spiritual life for fasting, sacrifice, prayer, and works of mercy.
As I prepared these calendars for morning and noon Masses Mon thru Fri I realized all of us who serve at daily Mass will be called upon to make some small sacrifices to make sure two Masses a day are covered.
I had several emails, texts and calls about being unavailable on certain dates so I have done my best but I am sure there are some of you who won't be able to serve on the day I have scheduled you for. Please email this group and ask for a replacement or for someone to switch with you. Thank you so very much for your continued commitment. Thanks to Charles Fallo you can always check the calendar on the church website.
Have a blessed weekend!
Phyllis
FEBRUARY DAILY MASS SCHEDULE Revised February Lent Mass Schedule
March Daily Morning Schedule March Daily Noon Schedule
St. Thomas has a very active group of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who visit Memorial Hospital daily to bring the patients the Eucharist. The best way to be sure someone in the hospital is being visited, when registering indicate they are Catholic and are from St. Thomas. Sometimes, when admitted through the Emergency Room, the patient’s religious affiliation is not listed. Verify with the Hospital Admissions Office that the above information is included.
To those who visit the sick in the hospital and homebound, thank you for this ministry. It is so meaningful to those who are visited. Some are struggling with serious health issues; some have minor setbacks—but all are grateful for receiving the healing power of Jesus. It means so much to them to know that their church and their faith have reached out to them in their time of need.
As a reminder to those who visit the sick, please be respectful of the Eucharist. Prepare your own soul with prayer and seek forgiveness of any wrongdoing; make sure your hands are clean as you administer the host; go directly from the church to the hospital or home; put the pyx in a safe and distinct place in your pocket or purse. We suggest that you turn off your radio and cell phone when you are carrying the Eucharist. It will give you an opportunity to reflect on the sacredness of your ministry. Again, the ministry you have undertaken is important. We sincerely thank you for your help and support of the sick and homebound.
